When Monday is your favourite day: how my coaching can help you with that
Monday, 7 a.m. The alarm clock rings and your first thought is: ‘Oh no, I really don't feel like going to work.’ You have no energy, no motivation, simply no desire. Somewhere in the back of your mind, the feeling grows louder that things cannot go on like this. But if you are honest, you simply have no idea where to start. You are overwhelmed.
And if you're completely honest, you feel this way every day. And you don't want that anymore. You dream of enjoying getting up on Mondays again. Then imagine the following situation:
It's Monday morning, and you're full of energy. You're looking forward to the day and feel like going to work. During the day, you spend your time doing tasks that suit you and enjoy a pleasant working environment. And after work, you feel satisfied. Because it feels right. Because you really enjoy your work. And then you think back to a time when you were really unhappy. And you didn't like your job. And then you're just glad that you made that decision at some point. The decision to take a different path and change something about your miserable job.
I am Janina, a career change coach, and I support people who feel stuck in their jobs and don't know what to do next. In this article, I will show you how coaching can help you break out of that feeling of being stuck, and I will share the experiences of my clients who at some point said to themselves, ‘Enough is enough, I want to make a change,’ and had the courage to book a coaching session.
Why clarity and self-reflection are the basis of any career change
The people who come to me for career change coaching are unhappy in their jobs, but often can't say exactly why. And as long as you don't understand what you're actually missing, you'll keep heading in directions that are just as unsatisfying as before.
In coaching, we work on precisely that: What are your strengths? What are your values? What do you need in a job to make it feel right? It sounds simple, but in practice it requires a lot. Self-reflection needs space and sometimes someone to ask the right questions.
What my clients have experienced
Annika, a human resources manager, only realised through coaching how much she still didn't know about herself:
"Through coaching, I got to know myself much better, my strengths and talents, my values, my abilities and my interests. Now I know what I want and what I need. I also see many more opportunities and what is really important to me, both professionally and privately. Janina has a very empathetic and motivating manner, asks great questions and knows an incredible number of tools. I particularly liked the strong practical focus and the many ideas on how to simply try things out."
Steffi, an educator, quit her job during the coaching process and found a new one shortly afterwards:
"Before the coaching, I had a vague feeling of dissatisfaction and a vague desire for change. The coaching made me much more aware of my strengths and interests. I took a look at everything I had already achieved in my professional life. Over time, the fog slowly lifted and I was able to identify what is important or even essential for me in my professional environment in the future. I recommend coaching to anyone who wants to learn more about themselves and is open to new paths."
After just a few sessions, Anthi already felt like she could see things more clearly:
‘“Janina is someone who makes you feel comfortable opening up and sharing your story and goals. She really helped me focus on what's important to me and set priorities. The most valuable lesson I took away from this experience was to stay true to myself. Thanks to this experience, I am now in a much better position professionally.”
Helena came to me at a time in her life when she was experiencing both a professional and personal crisis:
"Janina really helped me find my way and gain new clarity about how I want to spend my time and use my energy. Her style is mindful and based on active listening, observation and honest, loving reflection. After each session, I felt better equipped to take the next steps. I also noticed noticeable changes in my thought patterns during our conversations."
After the coaching, Frederik felt encouraged to go his own way:
“With a powerful combination of retreat and clear analysis, Janina empowers her participants to set out on their own path, not only with courage and confidence, but also with solid tools and an individual plan. For anyone who wants to feel more like a fish in water than a penguin on the beach in their career.”
Robin had little desire to look for a job and even less to write applications:
“We discovered so many positive aspects of my personality that gave me hope, strength, energy, focus, motivation, self-esteem and a better attitude towards job hunting. I learned to see myself from a different perspective and to view myself more generously, lovingly and creatively. Janina's ideas and feedback often showed me things that I hadn't seen myself.”
What they all had in common
None of my clients simply waited for something to change. What they all have in common is that at some point they said: enough. And then they actually did something about it. They took the time to ask themselves seriously what they actually wanted, embraced perspectives that were new and sometimes uncomfortable, and took responsibility for their own professional future.
That is the real starting point for any change.
Mark Manson writes in his book ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck’: "For anything to really change in your life, you have to be wrong about something. If you sit around dissatisfied day after day, it means you're wrong about something big in your life. And unless you have the courage to question yourself and find out what it is, nothing will change."
If you feel that something is wrong in your professional life and you don't know where to start, feel free to book an introductory meeting with me. Together, we will see if and how I can accompany you on your journey. So that one day you too can say on Mondays: This is my favourite day.
